~ ABC’s of Balanced Fitness

exercise routine

Back to the basics again only this time the focus is on fitness. With so much information out there it is easy to get overwhelmed and over complicate things when the truth is being fit and active is as easy as…yep, A B C!

ABC’s of Balanced Fitness

Always stretch after working out.

Bring your “A” game and make every moment count.

Combine cardio and strength training.

Dance off mega calories.

Examine different work out routines and pick one you like.

Figure out your maximum heart rate.

Get off the couch during commercials and do some sit ups.

Have your work out clothes laid out the night before.

Imagine yourself crossing the finish line.

Jog to a friend’s house instead of taking the car.

Killer hills make for a killer backside.

Let go of the idea that you are not an athlete.

Make working out a priority and schedule time for it.

Never start running without a 5 minutes warm up.

Organize a walking group amongst your co-workers.

Prepare for working out by having the proper fuel.

Quiet the voice that tells you to sleep in.

Really focus on the muscles you are working.

Stop if you feel sharp pain.

Try for your personal best and not just the best.

Understand our bodies are meant to move.

Vary your work outs to avoid boredom.

Walking is always a great work out if you move briskly.

X off your work outs on a calendar and watch your progress.

Yawning during a work out probably means you aren’t being challenged.

Zumba classes will make you sweat!

Thought to ponder: Do you over complicate your fitness regime?

    Emma,
So, so interesting to read this today. Just last night, I re-thought my strength workouts…and chose something that is not over complicated. After I had it chosen (Primal Blueprint Fitness…you might like it!!) – I did the workout. Five basic moves, all body weight exercises – and it challenged me bigtime!! And I love his thoughts on cardio and fun, too – to make for a well-rounded fitness program.

    And today…I’m loving your ABC’s!!!

    Rock on Emma!!

    • Hey Lance!

Thanks so much. I am going to check that routine out! I was inspired to do these ABC posts because I was starting to feel like there are soooooooo many options and I wanted to get back to the simpler steps to fitness. That workout sounds like a good one for that.

I’ll keep rockin’ if YOU do. :)

  2. What a clever and helpful post Emma.
Another suggestion for “g”. Gym. I’ve been going to one for 8 years and it’s a key part of my day and my week.
A delight to touch in with you again.

Fun creative list. My biggest problem is “M” … making time. I have gone through periods of time where it is #1 and times like now … where there just seems to be no time at all. Getting back to making time for exercise is really tough because other things must go.

    • I had such trouble with making time myself until I really noticed that when I don’t work out for a few days my energy is more frantic and I am on edge more. Releasing energy in a physical way not only makes me more fit, it keeps me sane! *lol*

I like the way you kept it simple with A, B, C. You even tricked me to go all the way to Z.

  5. Love your ABC’s – especially “let go of the idea that you are not an athlete.” I’ve never been very athletic even though I try. I do enjoy keeping fit, though, so it’s nice to know I don’t have to be an athlete to do that. Thanks for motivating us to just move!

    • Hey, Renee, I am right there with you. Team sports are not my thing and I often thought that meant I was just not one of “those” people. I have found though that I am strong and have stamina…sounds pretty athletic to me! Here’s to discovering the athlete that lives inside and is just waiting for a chance to shine. :)

    Hi Emma,

This is so clever! Short, simple, and to the point! I especially like, “Understand our bodies are meant to move!” I think really letting that soak in and living accordingly is going to make a big difference in my life. Whenever I can, I like to be outside moving; however, I find myself repeatedly falling into a slump when I’m at work. It’s so depressing having to sit at my desk in front of a computer all day, especially in an office with no windows. I haven’t been very good at making myself get up and move around when I’m at work, but that’s what I’m about to start focusing on. Getting up and going for a short walk outside or even doing some “desk yoga” can make all the difference in the world.

    • Hi Adrienne!

Thanks so much for sharing here. :)

It is so empowering when we take note that our bodies want to be in motion. We can then stop all the self talk and just be with that thought and take action on it. Hope you move and groove today. :)

Emma, I love this!!! What a fun creative way to look at fitness and get enthused.

This would make a fantastic poster. Perhaps you can some made and sell them – they’d be great in homes, businesses/offices, schools – sports stores – everywhere. Truly fantastic!
